TAG Heuer presented a double launch of the new chronograph technology the Carrera MikroPendulum 100th-of-a-Second Chronograph & The TAG Heuer Carrera MikroPendulumS 100th-of-a-Second Concept Chronogra

This year’s TAG Heuer Baselworld breakthroughs are based on another one-of-a-kind innovation from the grand masters: the Carrera Pendulum (2010), the world’s first escapement to work with magnets instead of a traditional hairspring. This revolutionary COSC-certified regulator overturns 3 centuries of conventional watchmaking tradition. In a classical spiral hairspring system (invented by Christian Huygens in 1675), the effect of gravity due to mass is a dominant issue. With the Pendulum, the problem no longer even exists--there is no loss of amplitude. The result is a significant increase in precision (division of time) and performance (frequency accuracy and stability). Still, the original TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept posed problems that many thought insurmountable. In particular, thermal sensibility: magnetic fields are influenced by temperature differences, which affect performance. Over the last 3 years, however, TAG Heuer’s scientists and engineers have worked on this problem, experimenting with new magnetic atoms, metal alloys and carefully dimensioned and machined geometries. The result is a new overturning of conventional wisdom: an invisible, magnet-driven spiral that moves the balance wheel at a low amplitude and high frequency that ensure a perfect accuracy and stability. Overall, the magnetic oscillator’s performance comes close to matching traditional hairsprings of the highest quality. Even better--it is much easier to manufacture and impervious to shock, gravity and geometric deformations. For the time being, this technology is only commercially applicable for frequencies higher than 10 Hz. fortunately, this is TAG Heuer’s uncontested domain: the brand has completely dominated the world of ultra-precision for years. To showcase this advancement, TAG Heuer is presenting a double launch of the new chronograph technology at Baselworld: one commercially available, the other in the concept stage. Backed by many TAG Heuer patents, both are delivered in the motor-sports inspired chassis of the brand’s iconic Carrera collection.

Hermes reveals its Arceau Le temps suspendu

fiogf49gjkf0d

It’s time to dream at Hermès. A new chapter in the story that started in 2011, Arceau Le temps suspendu adopts a 38 mm case and prolongs the interlude in time begun with the first model. A press on the pusher at 9 o’clock, and the magic begins to weave its spell as the hour and minute hands come to a halt at round 12 o’clock. The time is erased from the dial and thus dissociated from standard time that begins running thanks to the Manufacture H912 movement. A playful hand, turning counter-clockwise on an indicator between 4 and 5 o’clock, signals that the mechanism is indeed in operation. Another press brings the hands back to their proper place and time starts running again. The movement is automatic, Manufacture H1912 calibre, 40 jewels, 28,800 vib/h, 50-hour power reserve, circular-grained and snailed plate, satin-brushed bridges and oscillated weight sprinkled with the H motif.

Alpina – Sailing Yachttimer Countdown

fiogf49gjkf0d

Alpina builds further on its Sailing collection with the Yachttimer Countdown. The first unmistakable sign that this is a serious sailing watch is the countdown window from 0 to 4 that runs into a fluorescent START indicator when the action begins. Because it's the seconds that count when racing, the triangular seconds hand stands out in fluorescent orange. The hour and minute hands make their mark too in luminescent white. The unidirectional sapphire compass bezel is graduated over 360°. The transparent back allows an amazing view of the complex AL-880 calibre while the rubber strap is made to withstand the elements. The Yachttimer Countdown is as much at home skimming the waves as down at the yacht club. Movement - Mechanical automatic, AL-880 calibre, black PVD rotor.

Eberhard & Co Takes pride with itself Chrono 4 Géant Full Injection with 500 piecies

fiogf49gjkf0d

The flagship collection at Eberhard & Co embraces a new all-black edition, the Chrono 4 Géant "Full Injection", a timepiece so technically complex that only 500 will be produced. The steel case and strap buckle are covered in black DLC-Dianoirâ - Diamond Like Coating - a patented, carbon surface treatment. The 46 mm case also undergoes a special process of low-temperature carbon diffusion that hardens the steel by allowing carbon atoms to penetrate its surface. Two processes that strengthen the watch's resistance and add to its style. This same explosive energy resurfaces in the black dial with "Côtes de Genève" motif, the coordinating snailed counters, and the rubber strap with vertical sculpted lines. The movement is Mechanical automatic with 4 horizontally aligned counters (minutes, hours, 24 hours and small seconds), EB. 250 calibre, 121/2 lines, 53 jewels.

Raymond Weil to unveil its new tango

fiogf49gjkf0d

The collection with its refined and sensual lines offers a completely new design. More contemporary, always just as elegant and gracious, the tango remains master of the art of the precision movement. For the first time, the collection combines rose gold with steel, to the great pleasure of the lovers of two-tone models. Available in ladies and gents versions, tango the complete harmony of an Argentine dancing couple. The tango Two-tone Rose, for its part, sees its 39mm steel case enhanced with rose gold on its bezel, crown and the two central rows of its bracelet links. The white dial is embellished with a “star” decor in its central zone surrounded by a circle of black Roman numerals, providing this masculine model with a timeless character. With its quartz movement, the tango Two-tone Rose will continue to set the rhythm for the dance of the RAYMOND WEIL collection.

Hublot – Classic Fusion Tourbillon Squelette Black Ceramic

fiogf49gjkf0d

The latest new release from Hublot radiates a powerful visual presence. The Tourbillon Squelette Black Ceramic remains true to the brand’s identity codes, including a black monochrome design, while displaying a slimmer profile that gives it a more classic touch. But if there is one brand that knows how to combine tradition with the future, Hublot is definitely it! The openworked movement entirely designed, developed and produced by the Hublot watchmakers is resolutely graphic. The polished and satin-brushed black ceramic case radiates a sophisticated, contemporary appeal. And the most beautiful of all horological complications – the tourbillon – is revealed in all its splendour at 6 o’clock. In a nod to brand history, the hands echo the design of the very first Hublot watches, providing a fine demonstration of fusion between past and present, behind hand-crafted expertise and creative vision. 99-piece limited series. Movement - Mechanical hand-wound, openworked Manufacture MHUB6010.H1.1 calibre, tourbillon, 155 parts, 19 jewels, approx. 120-hour power reserve.

Ulysse Nardin - Stranger

Ulysse Nardin astonishes collectors with a mechanical musical watch - developed in-house from the UN-690 calibre with silicon technology - that plays the legendary 1966 song, "Strangers in the Night". The uniqueness of this movement lies in the time-setting system. Rather than the conventional pulling, the crown is pushed to activate a function: T for time, D for date and W for wind. The craftsmanship and technical complexity of this watch are matched by the delightful addition of a miniaturised music box mechanism with 10 pins revolving on the dial. Produced as a 99-piece limited series.

Cuervo Y Sobrinos – Historiador Flameante

fiogf49gjkf0d

The Swiss brand with a Latin soul, Cuervo Y Sobrinos excels in bringing its history to life in its watches. Once again this year, the brand revives a landmark model from its past. The Historiador Flameante pays tribute to a 1950s watch. Flameante or flaming like the finely guilloché dial and movement finishes: the Côtes de Genève pattern on the plate, the blued screws, and the "Testimony of Style since 1882" inscription engraved around the movement, all visible through the sapphire crystal back. The hand-wound calibre, with small seconds offset at 6 o'clock, is housed inside a rose gold case whose 40 millimetre diameter is both classic and universally pleasing. Cuervo Y Sobrinos again transports its history into the 21st century and, today as yesterday, proves it is an accomplished advocate of refinement and elegance. Movement - Mechanical hand-wound, ETA 7001, 17 jewels, 42-hour power reserve, "Testimony of Style since 1882" inscribed on the movement, "Côtes de Genève" motif on the bridges.

Franc Vila – FVi N°8 Tourbillon Intrepido SuperLigero Skeleton

fiogf49gjkf0d

The FVi No.8 Tourbillon INTREPIDO SuperLigero Skeleton pursues the concept first introduced five years ago. In 2011, the INTREPIDO design, a second evolution of the Franc Vila case, also adopted the SuperLigero approach. The association of ultra-thin materials and proven sturdiness are the starting point for these products. Their common denominator is “Lightnium”, an aluminium and lithium alloy used in aeronautical engineering and picked up by the watchmaking both in development movements and in the aesthetic expression of these creations. The FVi No.8 features the famous bezel with its combined elliptical and circular shape that has become a brand signature. It is equipped with a hand-wound tourbillon movement with Lightnium bridges, silicon escape-wheel and lever, as well as an oscillating weight adorned with Côtes de Genève – all combining to prove that the brand is uncompromising on both technical and aesthetic fronts. 8-piece limited edition. Movement - Mechanical hand-wound, FV N°8 calibre, tourbillon, 178 parts, 17 jewels, 21,600 vib/h, 4.5-day power reserve; 5N Lightnium bridges, flat balance-spring, brass oscillating weight adorned with “Côtes de Genève”.

CERTINA DS – Limited Edition to celebrate 125 years

fiogf49gjkf0d

The new CERTINA DS model is a new automatic movement which incorporated an extraordinary power reserve of 80 hours. Blending design elements reminiscent of the brand's early years with more modern aesthetic detail such as PVD rose-gold finishing and a see-through case back and will be produced in a limited-edition anniversary series of only 5000 pieces. The new ETA Powermatic 80 movement at the heart of the CERTINA DS comes with an exceptional power reserve of 80 hours ensures that through more than three full days. The DS comes in 40mm polished 316L stainless-steel case with brushed lugs and a polished bezel. A rounded sapphire crystal with anti-reflection coating opens onto a black concave dial, decorated with the mention "125th Anniversary" and the former "double-C" CERTINA logo??also embossed over the crown tip, in a wink back at tradition and history. The gorgeous contrasting PVD rose-gold hands and indices are treated with Superluminova for greatest readability. The DS is of course equipped with the CERTINA DS Concept, ensuring its water resistance up to a pressure of 10 bar (100m), and fastens with a brown leather strap and twin push-button butterfly buckle.

Antoine Martin – Slow Runner

fiogf49gjkf0d

Slow Runner: a new concept – decelerating time. An original idea from the Manufacture Antoine Martin. Drastically reducing the frequency to 7,200 semi-oscillations (vibrations) per hour, meaning 1 Hz, while preserving the qualities of a high-precision watch. On the practical side, the escapement and balance-spring are made of silicon. One essential point is that the giant 24 mm-diameter balance generates so much kinetic energy that it cannot be disturbed. Moreover, the balance features two gold adjustment screws, the balance rim is in grade 3 titanium, and the ultra-precise balance-spring production process enabled watchmakers to optimise its inner point of attachment and its curve. All these technical details serve just one mission: that of slowing time down in order to sublimate it. Movement - Mechanical hand-wound, AM36.001 calibre, 199 parts, 23 jewels, 7,200 vib/h, 92-hour power reserve; silicon escapement and balance-spring, grade 3 titanium balance, non-deformable steel balance bridges.

Louis Erard – Excellence Regulator Power Reserve

Louis Erard presents the masterful Regulator Power Reserve, truly an "Icon of Excellence" that once again demonstrates its vitality, creativity and expertise. The Regulator Power Reserve is both a tribute to the early instruments of precision timekeeping and a contemporary expression of the brand's virtuoso skill, as it draws on a complication that is exclusive to the Le Noirmont watchmaker. The line now extends from the original silver tones to include a sleek black counterpart whose sobriety makes the perfect foil for the exclusive regulator-style display. Louis Erard proves that it can take the most consensual displays to a new level of perfection. Forty millimetres that inspire multiple variations and continue to embody an uncompromising philosophy of fine timepieces at affordable prices. Movement - Hand-wound mechanical, ETA 7001 RE9 calibre with in-house Regulator Power Reserve complication.

Pierre DeRoche – TNT Royal Retro Power Reserve

Pierre DeRoche offers a new interpretation of its iconic TNT Royal Retro model enriched with a power reserve. The spectacular complication thus makes way during a full 20 seconds for the elegant mechanism of the new function positioned at 6 o’clock. The four remaining retrograde seconds mechanisms are nonetheless enough to give this timepiece unique character and to display the avant-garde talent of the watchmaker from the Vallée de Joux. Loyal to the TNT spirit, the movement, and notably the four power-reserve wheels, are entirely visible and magnificently decorated. A fine mechanical blend of strength and delicacy. Movement - Mechanical automatic, exclusive Dubois Dépraz calibre, 50 jewels, decorated and engraved oscillating weight, 12-pivot central bridge and 6 chamfered and satin-finished seconds bridges, moving retrograde hand indicators, hand affixed by a transversal pin, 4 retrograde seconds hands on gears, strip-spring return.

MCT – Sequential One - S110

fiogf49gjkf0d

The resolutely technical design of the Sequential One – S110, an evolution of the previous model made by Eric Giroud, is the work of watchmaking designer Fabrice Gonet. Its sophisticated and immediately recognisable style is a tribute by MCT to the emergence of a style combining the avant-garde with traditional Swiss horology. The openworked dial has been entirely removed in order to reveal the depth of the watch and to accentuate the perspectives created by the prism assemblies, the cross-shaped bridge and the minutes pointer. The minutes disc, the central element of the Sequential One – S110, highlights the complexity of the design while underscoring the harmony of the passing of time. The pointers, like the jumping hour hand, demonstrate meticulous attention to details, while the new style of the numerals on the prisms and the minutes disc are decidedly more contemporary. Movement - Mechanical hand-wound, 471 parts, 81 jewels, 18,000 vib/h, 40-hour power reserve, patent for the minute disc rotation with energy accumulation.

ARMIN STROM – ARMIN Tourbillon Water

fiogf49gjkf0d

Armin Strom joins the highly exclusive circle of brands that develop and produce a calibre with a tourbillon in-house. This marks the introduction of a dedicated collection perpetuating the signature codes of the Bienne-based brand and entirely in tune with the traditions of Swiss Fine Watchmaking. Equipped with ATC11 calibre, Tourbillon Water owes its personality and its technical sophistication from the heart of this subtle chemistry. The complication located at 9 o’clock is distinguished by its 18-carat white gold lever, as well as by a construction placing the balance and the seconds pinion along the same axis. The hand-wound calibre has a 10-day power reserve. It is driven by two barrels of which the winding mechanism is visible through the dial: an opening onto the mechanism bearing the unmistakable Armin Strom signature. Movement - Mechanical hand-wound, Armin Strom tourbillon ATC 11 calibre, 184 parts, 18,000 vib/h, 161/2  lines, 24 jewels, 10-day power reserve, twin barrel, balance with screws and Breguet overcoil balance-spring, 18K white gold lever wheel and lever.

The highly appealing models in the 2nd collection celebrate the dual time zone, while those in the 3rd contain unusual shapes hitherto unseen. Finally, the 4th David Van Heim mainstay comprises double chronographs of masculine over-stated proportions, cunningly downsized by detachable horns.

Badollet – Ivresse

fiogf49gjkf0d

Beneath a seemingly subdued surface lie hidden mechanical depths… Ivresse is the latest manufacture timepiece by Badollet. The rectangular case, in platinum, embraces the wrist with its gentle curves while its finishes convey absolute purity that serves to highlight the midnight blue dial. Such contrast is heightened by the brushed finish of the dial which itself is set against a circular satin-brushed hour ring. This refined aesthetic, the work of Eric Giroud, is equalled only by the mechanical complexity that brings this timepiece to life. The flying tourbillon movement, exclusively designed and developed for Badollet, is deliberately hidden from view, revealed only through the transparent case back whose sapphire crystal takes the shape of the infinity symbol, a tribute to time as the universal driving force. Movement - Mechanical hand-wound, flying tourbillon, 120-hour power reserve; domed movement with cone-shaped going train, hanging barrel, hand-decorated plate in nickel silver, traditionally-executed chamfering, chasing, counter-sinking, circular graining and straight graining.
