The Geneva Watch Days starts today

Get ready for the ultimate watch event as Geneva Watch Days 2023 takes its place on the watch calendar with a fourth unforgettable installment from today, August 29 to September 2. This year’s exhibition will be the biggest yet, with nearly 40 watch brands showcasing their latest releases at the Rotonde du Mont-Blanc pavilion on Lake Geneva, as well as at boutiques and venues throughout the city. The official inauguration, in partnership with the Canton and City of Geneva, will kick off the festivities today, August 29. Then, from Wednesday, August 30, the pavilion will open to the public daily until Saturday, September 2, where visitors can discover the participating brands’ latest novelties, all arranged by theme. Free guided tours are available every afternoon for anyone interested in gaining additional insight into the world of fine watches.

Rolex acquires Bucherer

Following the choice made by Jörg Bucherer, in the absence of direct descendants, to sell his company’s business, Rolex has decided to acquire the watch retailer, which was until now an independent entity. This move reflects the Geneva-based brand’s desire to perpetuate the success of Bucherer and preserve the close partnership ties that have linked both companies since 1924. The Rolex group is convinced that this acquisition is the best solution not only for its own brands but also for all the watch and jewellery partner brands, as well as for all the employees of the Bucherer group. Bucherer will keep its name and continue to independently run its business. The Group’s management team will remain unchanged. Bucherer’s integration into the Rolex group will be effective once the competition authorities have approved the takeover transaction.

Louis Moinet unveils JULES VERNE TOURBILLON “TO THE MOON”

The JULES VERNE tourbillons were designed to be personalised. At the centre of the dial is a space that allows the future owner to select a unique stone disc cut from either a lunar meteorite, an opal, or a lapis lazuli. Only eight discs of each material, handcrafted and revealing a unique pattern, will be offered. The central disc of these JULES VERNE tourbillons will be set in a peripheral guilloché. This rigorous craft involves carefully producing enchanting motifs by engraving gentle grooves on a metallic surface. The guillocheur then applies a translucid varnish to the surface, which adds depth and brilliance to the decoration. The JULES VERNE “TO THE MOON” tourbillon connects us to outer space thanks to its dial featuring the lunar meteorite.

Introducing Classique Répétition Minutes 7637 by Breguet

Contrary to appearances, the minimalist dial of the 7637 requires a particular craft that few artisans still practise today: the grand feu enamelling technique. Representing a mixture of silica and ground oxides, the coloured powders are dissolved in water before being applied to the dial using a variety of methods. Each layer and colour applied requires an additional firing at a set temperature of over 800 degrees Celsius and for a carefully programmed time. The watch case measures 42 mm in diameter and is newly available in rose gold. It houses Caliber 567.2, whose balance oscillates at a frequency of 2.5 Hz.

The Pilot’s Watch Automatic 41 Black Aces by IWC

The Pilot’s Watch Automatic 41 Black Aces is the latest innovation to emerge from the IWC Professional Pilot’s Watches Program. This masterstroke of functional engineering features a fully luminous white dial consisting of a solid disc of Super-LumiNova®. In dark chamber tests, the dial has emitted a bright greenish light for more than 23 hours, taking night visibility to the next level. The Pilot’s Watch Automatic 41 Black Aces is powered by the IWC-manufactured 32100 calibre. Combined with the soft-iron inner case, the movement’s antimagnetic silicon escapement improves the watch’s resistance to magnetic fields. In addition, the efficient double pawl winding system builds up a power reserve of 72 hours in the mainspring.

ArtyA presents the 'Tiny Purity Tourbillon, NanoSaphir Chameleon’

For 7 years now, ArtyA has stood out for its mastery in working with sapphire crystal, demonstrating craftsmanship of unrivalled creativity, precision and meticulousness – a testament to the brand’s exceptional expertise in this field. The NanoSaphir Chameleon presented here by ArtyA is a unique, high-tech, polycrystalline, tinted synthetic sapphire that undergoes a series of treatments to enhance its optical properties. Here, the material is treated at the molecular level to enable it to react to ambient light, while always guaranteeing absolute clarity. The result is striking. Each case has its own color combination (always a pair). Depending on whether the case is exposed to natural light or artificial light (6500 Kelvin or above), amber-orange becomes vivid green on this model.

The new Louis Vuitton Tambour Collection

In 2002, Louis Vuitton premiered the Tambour watch, an immediately recognisable drum-shaped case with a bold and arresting vision of time interpretation. After 21 years, the Tambour has matured, and its next expression comes in a slimmer form, characterised by exceptional finish, casual elegance, and sculptural, fluid lines. Two steel versions distinguish the launch of the new Tambour, reinforcing the designation of this collection for daily wear. A tone-on-tone model with silver-grey dial or one with a contrasting deep blue dial are the options for the introduction of the Maison’s reborn emblematic collection, an enriched Tambour with two additional firsts for Louis Vuitton - an integrated bracelet and an exclusive new and beautifully crafted automatic movement designed by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton.

Montegrappa launches The Witcher: Mutation

Montegrappa returns to the realm of fantasy, using mixed media to emulate Geralt of Rivia – the mutant, monster-hunter star of Netflix’s The Witcher. Battle-scarred and bold, the brands’s homage is made to inspire writers to forge their own path and summon their own extraordinary powers. Limited to only 200 fountain pens and rollerballs, twin swords underscore the edition’s considerable firepower. Each is a meticulous miniature, configured to repel any challenge. With a clip cast from sterling silver, even supernatural forces can be kept in check. Meanwhile, a removable blade is on hand for more mundane challenges. Keep it sheathed on the cap or stow it separately. A leather tool roll lets writers carry weaponry and bounties on journeys both real and imagined.
