Swiss watches sees top growth in six years.
Swiss timepiece exports upward in March, closing off the industry’s strongest quarter of growth in six years. Exports of steel watches soared 7% to $664.1 million (CHF 652.1 million), while gold and steel timepieces showed moderate growth, increasing 3% to $266.6 million (CHF 261.8 million). Worldwide shipments of Swiss timepieces climbed 5% year on year to $1.73 billion (CHF 1.7 billion) last month, the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry reports. Globally, lower-priced pieces faltered, with exports of watches worth under $204 (CHF 200) slipping 8% by value in March. Total exports for the first quarter jumped 10%, the highest quarterly growth rate since June 2012, the federation said.

Kering Jewelry lines see strong in first quarter.
Kering reported buoyant jewelry-and-watch sales in the first quarter, driven by new collections and extensions of certain product lines.
“Watches and jewelry performed very well this quarter,” the company said on Wednesday. “The strengthened positioning of [jewelry brands] Boucheron, Pomellato and Qeelin are paying off, thanks to new collections, extended iconic lines, and investments in communications and store networks”. The luxury retailer also reported a “robust” jewelry performance in the Asia-Pacific region.

OROAREZZO closes with positive signs of revival in the sector.
OROAREZZO, the Show that promotes the best Made in Italy Gold jewellery production, confirms the sector's optimal trend and closes positively. At the stands in Arezzo Fiere e Congressi, from 5th to 8th May, the Show, the second organized by Italian Exhibition Group S.p.A. (IEG), recorded a significant increase in international buyer attendance and confirmed the excellent number of visitors and exhibitors of the previous edition. The numbers at this edition of OROAREZZO indeed confirm pre-show expectations: 15,000 visitors with a significant +5% increase in foreign traders. Visitors were able to see and admire the high level manufacturing of over 600 brands, mostly Italian, representing all the main Italian gold districts. |

$1.8 Million for an Omega watch once belonged to Elvis Presley.
A 1960 Omega watch that belonged to Elvis Presley, sold for $1,812,500 at an auction by Phillips, setting a record price for the Swiss watch brand.
The watch gifted to Elvis Presley by RCA Records to celebrate his sale of 75-million records. The watch, made by Omega and retailed by Tiffany & Co., hammered for 1.5-million CHF and with buyer’s premium totaled 1,812,318 CHF, or $1,812,500. It is the highest price ever paid for an Omega watch.
The watch is 18k white gold with a caseback engraved: “To Elvis, 75 Million Records, RCA Victor, 12-25-60. It contains the manual-wound Omega Caliber 510, stamped with the OXG import code for the United States.
