LVMH Watch and Jewelry revenue rose 30 percent in Q3

LVMH revenues from its watch and jewelry division rose 30 percent to $343.2 million in the third quarter that closed September 30. Total sales for the third quarter rose 24 percent to $7.12 billion. Same-store sales rose 14 percent.  Diamond jewelry and watch sales were particularly strong in Asia and Europe.

 

Sheikha Lubna Al Qassimi ranks 70th on The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women

Sheikha Lubna Al Qassimi, Minister of Foreign Trade, was recognized as the most powerful Arab woman and the 70th most powerful woman in the world by US-based Forbes Magazine in its 2010 World's 100 Most Powerful Women. According to Forbes Magazine, Sheikha Lubna Al Qassimi is "a regional power in her own right" and constantly works on improving the UAE's global status.

 

Dubai Customs gets to keep confiscated diamonds as claim limit expires

The Dubai Court of Cassation ruled that a case can be dismissed without hearing in the event of the plaintiff opening it after the expiry of the period prescribed by law for the establishment of the case. As the plaintiff filed a case 90 days after the customs authority confiscated rough diamonds from man’s luggage at Dubai International Airport, the case was dismissed by both the lower courts.

Hublot nominates for "Walpole Awards for Excellence”

Hublot has been nominated for "Walpole Awards for Excellence". The Jury and Steering Committee informed Mr. Biver, Hublot's CEO that this nomination is in recognition of Hublot's exceptional performance, creations and numerous success stories, in particular during 2010. The awards ceremony will take place on 15 November at Banqueting House in London's Whitehall.

 

CHANEL to donate Mobile Art exhibition pavilion to Arab World Institute

CHANEL is to donate the Mobile Art exhibition pavilion designed by Iraqi-born British architect, Zaha Hadid, winner of the 2004 Pritzker Price, to the Arab World Institute. The pavilion showcased artworks by contemporary artists inspired by CHANEL’s iconic bag in 2008. The pavilion will be installed in front of the Arab World Institute early 2011.

 

Van Cleef & Arpels opens boutique in Kuwait

Van Cleef & Arpels and its local partner, Hussein Morad Behbehani Establishment, have opened a new boutique in Kuwait. The new boutique is located in the luxury shopping centre “Salhiya Complex” which will host the latest creations and collections from Paris. The ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted by Stanislas de Quercize, CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels and Mr. Hussein Morad Behbehani, CEO of Hussein Morad Behbehani Establishment.

Gucci opens expanded boutique in the Mall of the Emirates Fashion Dome

Gucci has announced the opening of its expanded boutique in Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates, which is its fourth store in the UAE. The Dubai flagship store, which has been relocated to the second floor of the new extension of the Mall of the Emirates, known as the Fashion Dome, is designed using the latest store design by Creative Director Frida Giannini.

 

A. Lange & Sohne record sales at Sotheby's HK

A. Lange & Sohne reached record sales during Sotheby's 'Important Watches' auction, held on 6 October 2010 in Hong Kong. A limited edition platinum LANGE ZEITWERK was auctioned off for a 20 percent increase of its original retail price. While the pink gold, black dial TOURBILLON "Pour le Merite" was sold for about two and a half times its original price.

 

Bulgari wins Watch of the Year 2010

The 2010 Watch of the Year Prize of the Swiss magazine Montres Passion has been awarded to the Bulgari Octo Bi-Retro, Gerald Genta collection. This accolade distinguishes a resolutely contemporary and sporty model with an iconic octagonal case. The timepiece features mechanical self-winding movement, jumping hours, retrograde minutes and date; 28,800 vph, 45-hour power reserve.

Giuseppe Aquila, Chief Executive Officer of Montegrappa met one of the world’s greatest living legends, Muhammad Ali. For Giuseppe, it was a poignant meeting, brought about by the release of the Montegrappa Icons Tribute to Muhammad Ali limited edition pens, honoring the legendary boxer.

 

EBEL honored for its new advertising campaign

EBEL was awarded the 2010 Swiss Watch Campaign Prize of the Swiss magazine Montres Passion. The new advertising campaign launched this year by the Architects of Time and created by the Parisian agency Publicis EtNous pays tribute to the brand's proud heritage and to a vein of creative inspiration perpetually renewed since 1911.

Romain Jerome Watches SA was officially awarded the “Coup de Coeur Creativite” prize for its advertising campaign. The 2010 “Coup de Coeur Creativite Horlogere”, rewarding a campaign representing a complete break with the classic communication codes prevailing in the watch industry, was duly accepted on behalf of RJ Watches SA by brand CEO Manuel Emch.

 

The RICHARD LANGE Timepiece Family

Jewellery Arabia 2010 at Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre

Work has begun on two semi-permanent structures to extend existing facilities at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre for Jewellery Arabia 2010. The 18,000 square metre exhibition, which takes place from 26 – 30 October, has sold out to capacity. Additional space is being built by the show organizers to accommodate demand for the fifth consecutive year. The 19th exhibition in this prestigious series features over 600 companies from 31 countries. Collectively, they form the largest display of precious gems, finished jewellery and luxury watches in the Middle East.

 

Cartier's High Jewellery event

Recently, Cartier has showcased unique jewellery creations in the UAE following the Paris Biennale des Antiquaires at the Grand Palais. These unique creations were revealed in 2 magnificent, high-profile events in Abu Dhabi at the prestigious Emirates Palace held on October 5th to 7th and in Dubai on October 11th to 12th at the iconic Burj Khalifa.

 

Christie’s to offer Private Collection of Parures & Art Deco & Contemporary Jewels at Dubai Sale

The 6th International Fashion Jewellery & Accessories Fair and International Watch & Clock Fair (IFJA & IWCF) will be held from 13 - 15 December 2010 at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre.  IFJA & IWCF will be held in conjunction with the 25th International Autumn Trade Fair. This year, the fair is targeting over 100 companies to exhibit including group pavilions and expecting to have more than 8,500 visitors.
