Arnold & Son launches the DBS
fiogf49gjkf0d DBS. Three initials that pay tribute to the heritage and expertise of Arnold & Son, once again placing the brand in the forefront of horological complications. Sidereal time and mean solar time (local time) appear side by side on the same dial. Between 1796 and 1799, John Roger Arnold achieved considerable feats in this field, now echoed two centuries later by the brand bearing his name. This timepiece featuring perfect aesthetic and mechanical symmetry bears two independently operating counters. Powering these two entities is an entirely in-house designed, developed and produced “mirror-type” calibre. It comprises two balances and two barrels – one running at a 24-hour speed and the other at 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds. The openworked dial provides a clear display of the two mechanisms operating side by side without interfering with each other. Doubtless liable to propel aficionados into even higher orbit are the sidereal and solar indications appearing at 12 o’clock and which are read off in 24-hour mode. Movement - Mechanical hand-wound Calibre A&S1311, 42 jewels, 21,600 vib/h, 40-hour power reserve; rhodiumed nickel silver, hand-bevelled bridges and sides, “Côtes de Genève” motif, blued screws.

R-J Romain Jerome presented the Moon Orbiter, a timepiece with exceptional watchmaking
fiogf49gjkf0d The RJ-Romain Jerome watch company springs yet another surprise at this Basel with its latest creation. In a fresh tribute to the conquest of space, RJ-Romain Jerome presents an exceptional model equipped with a Manufacture movement: a flying tourbillon featuring a unique three-dimensional architecture. With its generous 49 mm wide, 45 mm long and 20 mm thick dimensions, the Moon Orbiter looks every inch a true sci-fi fantasy. Its imposing rectangular shape and its numerous special-shaped sapphire crystals create a striking effect: its bezel-free case combining watchmaking steel with elements from Apollo 11 is composed of an exclusive system of lugs mounted on pneumatic cylinders to ensure both wearer comfort and the smooth fit of the black alligator leather strap with pin buckle-fastening. The hours and minutes are read off on an off-centred 3 o’clock counter on the right-hand side of the dial. The openworked hands are red-lacquered, while the 42-hour power reserve is displayed by a lacquered red cursor appearing on a separate subdial between the lugs at 6 o’clock. Everything is designed to highlight the flying tourbillon enthroned at 9 o’clock, on the left-hand side of the dial. The case has been literally built around the movement in such a way that no detail goes unnoticed.

de GRISOGONO in a lavish and bold SUGAR watch collection
fiogf49gjkf0d Fawaz Gruosi presented a new women’s timepiece collection as homage to beauty and colour. SUGAR is the very essence of femininity, transforming a watch into a luxurious sweet treat. The moving gems create a free movement all around the watch leaving a sparkling cascade of the highest quality of precious stones in white diamonds, emeralds, orange or blue sapphires. These new creations appropriately named SUGAR add a little sweetness to the already notoriously bold and lavish de GRISOGONO pieces. Fawaz Gruosi’s creativity is in continuous motion and he feels relentlessly inspired by all that he sees in life. He never ceases to surprise its most loyal followers and has kept doing so with this collection. SUGAR combines the artistry of the skilled gem-setters with the craftsmanship of the Brand’s timepiece designers, the intricate gem-setting techniques perfectly conceal the mechanical details of the movement. The coloured mother of pearl render a soft, rich texture as the precious stones shine with an endless flow.

Perrelet new Turbine watch with chronograph at this year’s basel
Perrelet has successfully incorporated a chronograph into a Turbine watch represented an additional challenge. The additional function is clearly displayed on the dial of the Turbine Chrono automatic model without detracting from the singular identity of the collection. The chronograph measurements are provided by a central seconds chronograph hand and a particularly innovative 60-minute counter. The former runs over a large inner bezel surrounding the dial, while the latter is composed of two juxtaposed sapphire crystal elements. A graduated mobile disk turns in the center of a fixed ring marked with a red arrow bearing the inscription “min” and pointing to the recorded times. Thanks to the transparency of the chronograph counter, the signature rotor of the Turbine watches remains perfectly visible. On the Turbine Chrono, they create discreet effects highlighting the unusual date display. The latter appears in an aperture at 6 o’clock in step with the movements of the turbine gliding over it.

De Bethune revealed the DB16 Régulateur Tourbillon
fiogf49gjkf0d With the DB16, De Bethune celebrates classic Fine Watchmaking in a ballet of complications. The architecture of the DB2509 calibre is built around a silicon and titanium tourbillon beating at 36,000 vib/h, one of the fastest and lightest on the market. This movement also drives a power indicator, seconds, as well as a retrograde display of the age of the moon. Hidden on the back of the watch, this masterpiece will surprise connoisseurs looking for subtle details. The classically understated dial thus provides readings of the perpetual calendar and spherical moon-phase indications, sublimated by the Manufacture’s signature silver-toned guilloché motif. The steady, rhythmical beat of the jumping seconds embodies the very essence of the horological emotions procured by this stunning creation. Movement - Mechanical hand-wound, DB 2509 calibre, silicon/titanium tourbillon, 499 parts, 45 jewels, 36,000 vib/h, 4-day power reserve; double self-regulating barrel, silicon/white gold balance, silicon escape-wheel, Côtes de Bethune decoration.

Maurice Lacroix – Masterpiece Seconde Mystérieuse
fiogf49gjkf0d Maurice Lacroix brings a new face to time measurement with its Masterpiece Seconde Mystérieuse. Fascinating, captivating, unconventional… this timepiece is all of these but, more than anything, it is mysterious. Driven by a new proprietary movement, the ML215, – the twelfth to be entirely developed by the brand – it indicates seconds on a linear display combining vertical and horizontal scales, read per 15 seconds. The mystery comes from a blued steel hand that rotates on its axis, creating the illusion of levitation. Hours and minutes are shown at 2 o'clock; the rest of the dial is cut away to reveal rhodium- or ruthenium-plated bridges whose geometric form lends an infinitely contemporary feel. Made as two 125-piece limited series. Movement - Mechanical automatic, ML215 calibre, 48 jewels, 18,000 vib/h, 50-hour power reserve, rhodium or ruthenium plating, sanded finish, "Côtes de Genève" motif on the rotor.

Sylvester Stallone and Montegrappa present the Chaos Automatic Analogue
fiogf49gjkf0d Sylvester Stallone and Montegrappa presented at BaselWorld the Chaos Automatic Analogue Wristwatch. Hand-made in northern Italy, where its mechanical movement is housed by artisans, the Chaos timepiece is an ideal partner for the pen and the cufflinks that inspired it. Most striking is the case, fashioned from a choice of silver or gold, with black PVD-coated back. It features the signature skull-and-serpents motif that continues around the case, even including a small, engraved skull on the winding crown. Its highlights have been intensified by subtle shading, while other editions will offer the details in hand-applied, full-colour enamels. The case is complemented by a leather strap with contrasting edges, terminating in a buckle with the skull motif, while the dial features applied Roman numerals, suggesting the antiquity of the Middle Ages. The black, bi-level, brushed guilloché dial with luminous hands and date aperture at 3 o’clock is protected by a sapphire crystal. Within the forged sterling silver or 18k solid gold case beats a Swiss heart. Montegrappa has chosen one of the world’s most dependable automatic “engines” to power the Chaos, the renowned ETA 2824. The massive 54x43mm-diameter case, secured by four screws and featuring a screw-down crown, protects it against water ingress to 10ATM. Only a limited number of Chaos Automatic Analogue Wristwatches will be produced, each a “portable work of art” exuding the same ferocious spirit as the Chaos Pen.

HYT – H1 Pink Gold - Black DLC
fiogf49gjkf0d The concept behind the H1 by HYT remains defiantly the same, and as astonishing as ever! This new version matches pink gold with the black DLC titanium of the original. A hybrid wristwatch combining horological mechanics with fluid mechanics seems like an impossible dream, and yet… Two reservoirs take position at 6 o'clock. As one compresses, the other expands, pushing the liquid through the capillary. As the hours go by, the fluorescent liquid advances. The meniscus, in the shape of a half moon, marks the breaking point with the other fluid in the tube, indicating the time. At 18:00, in a retrograde movement, the fluorescent liquid reverts back to its original position. Overlapping the minute regulator in the centre is the small seconds counter that looks for all the world like a waterwheel. Revolutionary and inspired, HYT takes an out-of-the-box approach to time. Movement - Mechanical hand-wound, exclusive HYT calibre, 28,800 vib/h, 35 jewels, hand-chamfered bridges with "Côtes de Genève" motif, rhodium-plated bellows, 65-hour power reserve.
