LVMH sales growth sees a slowdown

LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton says revenue grew a scant 2 per cent in the third quarter of the year, a sign the French luxury juggernaut is slowing. The company behind Givenchy gowns and De Beers diamonds said on Tuesday that it bought in €7 billion in sales in the July to September period. That’s less than the € 7.3 billion analysts surveyed by FactSet had expected.

Tiffany confirms final split from Swatch

Tiffany & Co. and Swatch Group have officially severed ties after a protracted legal battle, leaving the American jeweler free to seek new opportunities for its line of branded watches. On October 11th, Tiffany told the Securities & Exchange Commission that its relationship with the Swatch Group automatically terminated on the first of October, leaving it in control of its timepiece collection. Tiffany & Co. and Swatch Group joined forces in 2007, with Tiffany stating the deal would make them a leading name in watches. However, the agreement fell apart in less than two years, leading to a lengthy fight in court. Initially, Swatch sued for $4 billion in lost revenue and Tiffany countersued for $600 million, claiming breach of contract. The companies then took the case to a European court, participating in a confidential arbitration in the Netherlands.

Dubai Duty Free’s nine month sales up 12%

Dubai Duty Free sales reached Dh4.65 billion ($1.27 billion) in the first nine months of this year, an increase of 12 per cent over the same period last year, putting it on track for year-end sales of Dhs6.6 billion. Strong growth was recorded across the Terminals, with sales in Terminal 3 rising by 17 per cent year- to- date to Dhs2.94 billion ($805 million) and accounting for 63 per cent of total DDF turnover. Terminal 2, which accounts for 7.6 per cent of turnover, saw sales rise by 22 per cent to Dhs352 million ($96.5 million) year to date. Terminal 1, which accounts for 28 per cent of total turnover recorded nine month sales of Dhs1.3 billion ($358.5 million). Category wise, perfumes, liquor and gold retained the top three positions with perfumes in particular showing strong growth with a sales increase of 17 per cent to Dh738 million ($202 million) for the first nine months of the year.
