Dubai Pearl Exchange to host Pearl Trade Auction in January 2011
fiogf49gjkf0d On January 2011, the Dubai Pearl Exchange (‘DPE’), a subsidiary of Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (‘DMCC’), will be hosting two major international pearl trade auctions at its headquarters in the Almas Tower. The first event will feature white South Sea pearls produced by Paspaley Pearling Co., on January 10 to 11. It will be followed by an auction of Tahitian and golden South Sea pearls from Robert Wan and Jewelmer, respectively, on January 12 to 13.

Harry Winston group sales soars 88 percent in Q3
fiogf49gjkf0d Harry Winston Diamond Corp. reports profit during its third quarter of fiscal year 2011 as group sales soar 88 percent to $140.9 million. Cost of sales rose 90 percent to $85.8 million, nonetheless profits rose to $4.7 million from a loss of $1.4 million one year ago.

Hublot in an unconventional ad
fiogf49gjkf0d On November 25, 2010, Formula One tycoon Bernie Ecclestone was mugged in London and his Hublot watch stolen from his wrist. The same day he sent his picture taken after the assault to Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of Hublot, along with a note: “See what people will do for a Hublot”. Since the two share a certain sense of humor, they soon agreed to turn the incident into an advert.

Damas at the 7th Dubai International Film Festival

Versace opens new boutique in Beijing
fiogf49gjkf0d Versace announced the opening of its new boutique in Beijing, China. This is the third Jewellery boutique following those in Rome and Dubai. These are a collaborative venture between Versace and Vertime, the Swiss company that produces and distributes Versace watches globally. The new boutique, occupying 80 square metres, is situated within the China Central Place, the capital city’s shopping mall dedicated to luxury goods.

The auction posted a remarkable 83% of the 356 timepieces sold by lot and 119% sold by value, based on the low estimate. In addition to the many telephone, room, and commission bidders, there were 419 registered online bidders competing for the sought after timepieces offered in the sale.
