UAE retains Top 10 ranking as importer of Swiss watches. The UAE is credited with market viability and sustainability for Swiss timepieces - Swiss watch imports to the UAE in 2013 rose by 9% vs. 2012 and by 36% since 2011.

 

$75m worth of artworks & watches for sale at Christie’s Auction

More than 200 pieces of artworks and luxury watches, estimated to be worth of $7.5 million (Dh25 million) are expected to go under the hammer at Christie’s auctions in Dubai this week. The London auction house will sell a total of 157 paintings, sculptures, drawings and other modern and contemporary Arab, Iranian and Turkish artworks on March 19 at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel. The artworks have a combined pre-auction value of $5.5 million, while the watches carry a pre-sale estimate of $2 million. Christie’s auctions seek to cater to buyers and collectors at all levels, with estimates ranging from $2,000 to $200,000 for artworks and $1,000 to $350,000 for timepieces.

 

Dubai’s non-oil foreign trade hits Dh1.33tr in 2013

Dubai’s non- oil foreign trade reached Dh1.329 trillion in 2013, an eight per cent increase over Dh94 billion in 2012, Dubai Customs announced. Dubai’s imports increased from Dh736 billion in 2012 to Dh811 billion in 2013, while exports and re- exports increased from Dh498 billion in 2012 to Dh518 billion in 2013.
