Exclusive interview with Mr. Amit Dhamani, CEO / Managing Director of Dhamani Jewels Group

What is the biggest challenge you faced as you were taking the company to the level it reached today?
The Biggest ongoing task we have is to be relevant to customers’ trends and requirements and adapt our products and processes accordingly. In this age of advanced customer engagement, adaptability is the key for the growth of Dhamani Jewels Group.

Now that you are well established in Dubai, what would be the next step in terms of expansion in other markets in the region?
Other than our various key strategic locations in Dubai, We are now present also in Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Oman and we are looking forward to open in Sharjah soon.

How do you describe the Middle East markets and what is your vision and approach towards ecommerce? Are you looking into developing your own online platform? 
Middle East markets are evolving at rapid pace with social media at forefront of driving customer desires. Dusoul by Dhamani is our trendy, Millennial focused affordable luxury brand which we are soon venturing on various e commerce platforms in 2020.

DHAMANI 1969 and Dusoul are both about beautiful jewellery reaching different tastes and even budgets, what is the share of men jewellery from it?
Men’s jewelry is a category which is very focused in Dhamani 1969 and Dusoul. From Men’s rings with diamonds and gemstones, Cuff links, Tie Pins, and plain bands we have men’s jewelry as a growing segment. Very soon we will be launching a special collection “Tetragono“ in Dhamani 1969 for men’s jewelry.

2020 is the year of the Dubai Expo, how is the DHAMANI group participating in this important trade and economic event?
Expo 2020 is a key milestone for Dubai and UAE. Expo will be bringing millions of visitors to the country of which we expect good amount of percentage to buy any kind of jewelry. We are in active dialogue with various touch points of these visitors and will be unveiling special collection for expo in October 2020.

Dubai’s trade activity peaks in Q3

Dubai achieved regular quarterly profits in 2019. The third quarter saw the highest trade activity worth Dh343 billion, a growth of 7 per cent. The second quarter’s trade activity witnessed 3 per cent growth to reach Dh337 billion while the first quarter’s trade activity saw a 7 per cent growth to reach Dh339 billion, compared to the same period in 2018. Dubai’s foreign trade out of free zone was a big contributor to the overall increase in the non-oil foreign trade, accounting for Dh439 billion, a 11 per cent, Dh45 billion increase year-on-year.

 

Dubai Duty Free sales hit $2B again

Sales at Dubai Duty Free crossed the Dh7.3 billion ($2 billion) mark in 2019, almost the same as last year's Dh7.356 billion figure. Dubai Duty Free crossed the $2 billion sales mark on December 26 when Indian nationals Mr. and Mrs. Neeraj Sati purchased items worth Dh348. The couple was travelling back to Mumbai with their family after they celebrated Christmas in Dubai with their relatives. Generally, the most popular purchases are perfumes, cosmetics, electronics, watches and confectionary, among others. It is a big achievement for Dubai Duty Free that it sustained the last year's sales mark despite challenges due to a slowdown in the global economy, USthe -China trade war and the introduction of value added tax and excise duty last year.

 

The Hype joins Baselworld and becomes the Baselworld Watch Lounge

About fifteen independent watch brands that previously exhibited in a hotel near the show, have decided to join Baselworld in 2020, all grouped together under a new banner - The Watch Lounge. The Watch Lounge thus becomes a new space that complements Les Ateliers (which brings together independent watchmakers) and the redesigned Watch Gallery, which will bring together all manner of companies from the start-up firm pitching its new project to the already more established brands that want to expand their distribution.

 

Watches & Wonders Miami to return to the Miami Design District in February 2021

The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH), with the support of its partner brands and the Miami Design District Associates (MDDA), is pleased to announce that the next edition of Watches & Wonders Miami will take place February 12-14, 2021. The move to postpone the 2020 event reflects a strategic decision taken by the FHH to focus all efforts on the debut of the new Watches & Wonders Geneva concept which is scheduled for this coming April 25 – 29. With Miami continuing to grow as a global hub for art, culture and luxury overall, the FHH remains committed to the city, and the Miami Design District in particular, as an ideal setting for the Watches & Wonders concept.

Chopard main partner and official timekeeper of the Coppa delle Alpi by Mille Miglia

Faithfully committed to the Mille Miglia race since 1988, Chopard is the main partner and official timekeeper of Coppa delle Alpi. Building on their expertise in classic car racing, the organisers of the Mille Miglia, known as the "most beautiful race in the world", are for the first time dedicating their know-how to holding a winter race. The new endurance rally, undertaken by around 50 vintage cars dating from 1919 to 1976, features a course promising a wealth of stunning views over the most breathtaking Alpine peaks.

 

Christophe Claret appoints Guillaume Galliot as ambassador

Guillaume Galliot trained in Tours at Charles Barrier and then Château de Noizay, before going on to work in several prestigious restaurants in both Montpellier and Paris - Jardin des Sens, Taillevent, Maison Blanche, before jetting off to Saint Barthélemy and New York. The Tasting Room by Guillaume Galliot was opened in 2012 and won its first star that same year, followed by a second in 2016. After politely declining several offers from Caprice, a traditional Four Seasons restaurant in Hong Kong, in 2017 he finally joined the team. It is here where the Michelin guide is enshrined and, in little over a year, Galliot joined the ranks of the world's top chefs when he received his third star. To mark the occasion, Christophe Claret has customised a Maestro watch for Guillaume Gaillot that proudly features his three stars.

 

Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry asks gems and jewellery exporters to enrol for NIRVIK Scheme

On the momentous occasion of the 45th India Gem and Jewellery Awards function organised by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) held in the Capital, Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon. Union Minister gave several new policy directions to gem & jewellery industry constituents and exporters. Shri Goyal encouraged gem and jewellery exporters to enrol in the NIRVIK Scheme (also known as Export Credit Insurance Scheme (ECIS), unveiled by the Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India (ECGC) in September 2019 to ease the lending process and enhance loan availability for exporters.

Blancpain presents the new limited edition celebrating the Year of the Rat

To celebrate Chinese New Year, Blancpain unveiled a new limited edition of this Complication featuring the Rat, the first animal of the Chinese zodiac, which heralds a year of luck and prosperity. All the information can be found on the white Grand Feu enamel dial of Blancpain's Traditional Chinese Calendar. The animal of the year, the Rat, appears in a window at 12 o'clock. Below is the double hours counter displayed in numbers and symbols. The ten celestial pillars and five elements are displayed at 3 o'clock, while two hands at 9 o’clock serve to read the month and date. They are complemented by an aperture dedicated to the leap months.
