Saudi International Luxury Week closes to great acclaim

Saudi International Luxury Week concluded last week following two hugely successful events in Jeddah and Riyadh. This year’s editions featured an expansive offering of exquisite jewellery and timepieces flown into the Kingdom from all over the world, including multi-million dollar high jewellery, a series of world firsts and regional premieres, and above all, boundless innovation, craftsmanship and creativity. 
There was a huge increase in the number of visitors to Saudi International Luxury Week in both cities, among them Royals, dignitaries and prominent industry movers and shakers – and tremendous satisfaction among exhibitors. Sales figures will be announced shortly. 70% of exhibition space for 2025 has already been confirmed.

The Precision Pioneer exhibition by Jaeger-LeCoultre

Jaeger-LeCoultre marked a momentous occasion with the Emirati premiere of ‘The Precision Pioneer’ exhibition. This captivating showcase, hosted at ICD Brookfield Place in DIFC, invites the public to discover how the pursuit of precision has advanced the art of fine watchmaking over the course of almost 200 years. To kick off this remarkable exhibition, Jaeger-LeCoultre was honoured to welcome the Jordanian-Palestinian R&B singer Zeyne and the Syrian actor Moatasem Al Nahar during an exclusive private opening celebration. The Emirati film producer Abdulla Alkaabi was animating the evening as its Master of Ceremony before handing over to the renowned DJ Kaboo for the after party. The Precision Pioneer is open free of charge to the public until May 19, offering the opportunity to experience craftsmanship and watchmaking in a new cultural context.

 

Demi Moore Godmother of the Trophée Chopard 2024

Actress, producer and NYT best-selling author Demi Moore will be the Godmother of the Trophée Chopard awarded at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Created in 2001, this prize honours the rising generation of international cinema by annually rewarding an actress and an actor who have made a promising start to their careers. The awards ceremony will take place on May 17th 2024 at the Carlton Beach, during an official dinner of the Festival, at the joint invitation of Iris Knobloch (President of the Festival), Thierry Frémaux (General Delegate of the Festival) and Caroline Scheufele (Co-President and Artistic Director Chopard).

De Bethune unveils the DB28xs Purple Rain

De Bethune unveiled its new chromatic palette with the launch of the DB28xs Purple Rain, a bold evolution. Indeed, before reaching blue, purple unfurls its chromatic richness, merging nuances of red and blue in a harmonious ballet. The DB28xs model is not simply a watch aesthetically smaller. It is a watch that opened a new chapter at De Bethune. A model that marked the history of the brand, as it is another step in the initiatory journey that has animated Denis Flageollet for 20 years. With a significantly smaller diameter than previous models (39mm), while retaining the unique and characteristic design of De Bethune, the DB28xs is a small miracle. Thanks to the technology required to carry out the project.

 

MB&F introduces the new HM8 Mark 2 BLUE

MB&F’s connection to cars runs deep, starting in 2012 with the HM5, followed by the HMX in 2015, and the HM8 in 2016. Each of these iterations is linked by its instantly recognizable speedometer-style display on the side of the case that recalls the daring and futuristic design of the 1970s. A decade after the first automotive-inspired MB&F Machines, MB&F revealed the supercar-inspired HM8 Mark 2 in 2023. After a successful introduction of two editions in 2023 – with white or green body panels, the latter limited to 33 pieces – the HM8 Mark 2 comes back with a new 2024 limited edition featuring glossy sapphire blue bodywork, again limited to 33 pieces. Thanks to their metallic pigments and a translucid material, the blue body panels recall luxurious car paints, both technically and aesthetically.

With its new BR 05 Chrono Grey Steel & Gold,combining ruthenium and rose gold, Bell & Ross presents a watchmaking jewel. The BR 05 Chrono Grey Steel & Gold adopts a very contemporary watchmaking feature: the integration of the steel bracelet into the case. “Case and bracelet are one. This type of design evokes a style of watches that appeared in the 1970s. The rose-steel gold bracelet merges with the case creating a consistent whole. A black rubber strap can replace it, completely transforming the look of the watch and enhancing its sporting character.

 

HAUTLENCE presents the RETROVISION '47

Handcrafted in a hand-painted case with a cuboidal form featuring soft, rounded corners, the HAUTLENCE RETROVISION ‘47 mimics the look of the marbled green and white Bakelite of the historical broadcast receiver’s case. On the left side of the case, is the “speaker” grill, under which the wearer can make out a 60-second flying tourbillon whirling away. The case back is modeled after the back of the Model 5A5 radio receiver, with a specifically shaped plate engraved with the brand name and serial number. The round sapphire display back features some general information in the same vein as the radio and offers a view of the ED20-SP00 automatic caliber, which provides a power reserve of 72 hours.

 

Visconti presents the magnificent Calacatta Gold

Visconti presents the seventh edition of the Il Magnifico collection, in the elegant white and gold shades of the precious Italian Calacatta Macchia Oro marble, in a limited edition of 188 fountain pens and 88 rollerballs. The Il Magnifico collection, dedicated to Lorenzo de' Medici, celebrates the man who was the most powerful and energetic patron of Italian Renaissance culture during his reign as Lord of the Florentine Republic. This new edition, Calacatta Gold, is made from precious white Carrara marble, rare and expensive, with golden veins, extracted in the Apuan Alps. Calacatta marble has been reserved throughout history only for the most prestigious projects and works of art, such as those of Michelangelo and Donatello. It is synonymous with luxury, elegance and sophistication.

GJEPC unveils Exclusive Gem & Jewellery Show in Jaipur for International Buyers

The apex body of the gem and jewellery industry in India, GJEPC hosted the 3rd edition of International Gem & Jewellery Show (IGJS) in Jaipur. The event, powered by Gemfields, is being held from 12th to 14th April at Novotel Jaipur Convention Centre, Jaipur. IGJS Jaipur is a curated event, showcasing the best of Indian craftsmanship, featuring over 54 jewellery manufacturers and exporters presenting an array of Diamonds, Loose Gemstones, Gemstone & Diamond Studded Jewellery, and Silver Jewellery. IGJS 2024 witnessed 250 international buyers from 27 countries, spanning Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Greece, Iran, Italy, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, Ukraine, United Kingdom, USA, and Uzbekistan.

 

The Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status now extended to the Gem & Jewellery Sector: GJEPC

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has announced a significant milestone for the gem and jewellery industry in India. Following extensive efforts by the GJEPC in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status is now being extended to the gem and jewellery sector. The AEO programe was introduced as piolet project in 2011 vide Circular No. 37/2011 – Customs dated 23rd August. 2011. The AEO program, a crucial part of the broader ease of doing business initiative, has been instrumental in simplifying export operations across various sectors, resulting in significant time and cost savings for exporters. Despite the benefits it offers, the gem & jewellery sector was initially denied participation in the AEO program.
