Jewellery Arabia 2010 and 6th Edition Premier Middle East Awards

Jewellery Arabia 2010 was successfully inaugurated on 26 October by of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre. The exhibition featuring more than 600 exhibitors from 30 countries is now in its 19^th year. On the eve of the exhibition, the Arabian Watches and Jewellery magazine held the 6^th Premier Middle East Awards for Watches, Jewellery, Pens and Young Arab Designers Awards at a glittering gala reception at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. The Premier Awards aim to highlight and pay tribute to the latest trends and innovations in the Watch, Jewellery, and high end writing instruments and to encourage new Arab jewellery designers from Middle East.

A stolen Cartier ring of US$ 700.000 in Rome

The Cartier Boutique in Rome, Italy was recently the target of organized and professional gangs who stole a precious Cartier ring worth US$ 700.000. Two well dressed men in suits and ties walked independently to the Cartier boutique to view the ring and within few minutes they walked out of the Boutique with the stolen ring without any resistance. The Italian authorities are currently investigating this case.

Dubai Duty Free sales up 14.5 percent on strong passenger traffic

Dubai Duty Free has announced that its sales were up by 14.5 percent to Dh3.2 billion by end of September compared to the same period last year, which expects year-end sales to reach an estimated Dh4.5 billion. With that Dubai Duty Free would maintain its position as the world's largest single airport retail operator, a title it achieved in 2009 based on the then sales figure of $1.14 billion.

DeWitt and the MILK Charity

DeWitt announced its participation in The MILK (Mainly I Love Kids) Charity Dinner which was held on October 25th, 2010 at Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore. DeWitt has presented a special execution of its Blackstream Triple Complication GMT3, part of the emblematic Academia Collection. The timepiece was auctioned during the event in order to raise funds to support disabled and disadvantaged children from low-income families and communities.

Jaeger-LeCoultre receives Public Prize of Swiss Watch of the Year 2010 competition

The Duometre a Quantieme Lunaire watch from Jaeger-LeCoultre received the most votes this year to win the Public Prize for the Best Watch of the Year, a contest organized by the Swiss watch magazine Montres Passion. The watch embodies the latest in horological achievements of Jaeger-LeCoultre: it displays time with a jumping seconds hand showing 1/6th of a second increments and additionally providing the date and the age of the moon in a separate sub dial.

India shines once again at Jewellery Arabia 2010

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) organized the India Pavilion at Jewellery Arabia 2010 in Bahrain. The Indian Pavilion will be represented by India's top 59 exhibitors from Gems and Jewellery industry along with jewelers from around the globe in the industry’s premier event held every year.

Christie's 40 fabulous parures in Dubai

Following the success of the April 2010 Dubai sales which totaled $23.7 million against a projection of $15 million, an increase of 113% on the previous series of sales held in October 2009, Christie’s offered the largest private collection of parures ever to come to auction on 27^th October at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel. All pieces are signed by Chatila, Jahan or Mouawad and estimates range from $30,000 to $350,000.

Sotheby’s to offer magnificent jewels this November sale

Sotheby’s sale of Magnificent Jewels to be held in Geneva on 16 November, 2010 is set to be a major highlight of the international auction calendar this autumn.
