BaselWorld 2019 marks the beginning of a new era.

The 2019 edition of BaselWorld, the world's biggest annual watch and jewelry fair, opened its doors to the public Thursday 21 March, with exhibitors, show managers and industry experts looking forward to a future-oriented transformation of the show in the digital world.

The show witnessed many initial changes that included modern communication strategies, strengthening the jewelry sector, and expanding the gastronomic offerings at the show. The exhibition management promised that BaselWorld would be transformed from a classic sales and distribution platform into a future-oriented experience event.

With less than 600 brands attending there was be less competition among the novelties, for press coverage and more attention given to medium to smaller sized companies. 

In term of new watches, brands represented their latest innovations and creations, among them the Patek Philippe 5212A Calatrava Weekly Calendar Watch and 5170P chronograph as well as the Khaki Green Jumbo Aquanaut. Rolex has launched the all-new Rolex Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 42, available exclusively in 18ct white gold. Bulgari represented the Octo Finissimo Chronograph holing a new world record for both the thinnest mechanical chronograph, at a mere 6.9mm thick, and the 3.3mm thick Caliber BVL 318 is the thinnest automatic chronograph caliber.

Jaeger-LeCoultre unveils new boutique at Dubai Mall.

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s new flagship boutique reveals a remarkable new concept in the brand's retail vision, blending more recent codes with an enhanced atmosphere for client experience, unveiling a modern inspiring design ethos aligned to its new era.   CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre, Catherine Rénier and Nader Iskander, brand director Middle East, India and Greece attended the launch which featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Cartier announces the 21 finalists of the 2019 edition of the Cartier Women’s Initiative.

Cartier is reiterating its commitment to women entrepreneurs, with  the  announcement  of  the  2019  finalists  of  the  Cartier  Women’s  Initiative therefore hoping to showcase their key role in society and their contribution to the economy. The 7 laureates will be announced at the Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards ceremony on 2 May 2019, at San Francisco’s Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. The  7  laureates  will  take  home  US  $100,000  in  prize  money;  the  other  14  finalists  receiving US $30,000. 

 

Bugatti and Parmigiani Fleurier thank each other for long-time partnership.

Bugatti and Parmigiani Fleurier have announced the end of their partnership. Parmigiani Fleurier had become an official licensing partner of Bugatti in 2004, marking the beginning of a successful and exceptionally long collaboration between the two luxury brands. Panerai launches its latest creation Submersible Bronzo 47mm.

The new Panerai Submersible Bronzo is strong and decisive with its solid bronze case 47 mm in diameter. In  this  new  version, a  micro-sandblasted  brown  ceramic  disc  has  been  applied  to  the  rotating  bezel,  which  integrates perfectly with the brown of the dial and the strap made of natural leather. The  P.9010  Manufacture  calibre,  automatic  with  a  power  reserve  of  three  days,  is  wound  by a  bidirectional  oscillating  weight,  which  can  be  admired  through  the  sapphire  glass  porthole  on the  back.

 

Audemars Piguet launches new ‘CODE 11.59 by Audemars Piguet’ collection in Dubai.

For the first time,  Audemars Piguet presents a collection consciously designed for both men and women,  with  an  arched  ergonomic  case  suitable  for  all  wrist  sizes  despite  its  41mm  diameter. CODE  11.59  by  Audemars  Piguet  represents  one  of  the  most  important  and  comprehensive launches by Audemars Piguet.  The  collection’s  highly  recognisable  case  presents  an  octagonal  middlecase  embedded  within  a round caseback and bezel. Satin-brushed,  chamfered  and  polished,  the  bezel,  lugs  and  case  present  refined finishing techniques usually found on calibres. 

 

OMEGA Gold Speedmaster to Mark Apollo 11 50th Anniversary.

OMEGA’s new chronograph has been crafted from an exclusive new 18K gold alloy and is powered by a brand new manual-winding Master Chronometer calibre 3861. The case, bracelet, dial, hour-markers and hour-minute hands have all been created in 18K Moonshine gold. The polished and brushed 42 mm case of this timepiece features the asymmetrical caseband of the 4th generation Speedmaster. Around the wrist, the brushed-polished bracelet bears the five–arched-links-per-row design and a grooved clasp with an applied vintage. 

 

MB&F first timepiece dedicated to women.

MB&F presented Legacy Machine FlyingT, the first of MB&F’s three-dimensional horological art pieces dedicated to women. A round case in white gold, with a steeply cambered bezel and slender, elongated lugs, is fully set with diamonds. A high, extravagantly convex dome of sapphire crystal rises from the bezel. Beneath the dome, a subtly curved dial plate, liquidly black with layers of stretched lacquer or glittering with blazing white diamonds. Affixed to the top of the upper tourbillon cage is a single large diamond that rotates simultaneously with the flying tourbillon.

 

Girard-Perregaux unveils Cat’s Eye High Jewellery.

The Cat’s Eye High Jewellery uniquely combines two of the most refined techniques in gem cutting and gem setting: the first is the “invisible setting”, a truly exceptional skill that is the domain of only the most experienced Masters; the second is the “snow setting” in which the natural aspect achieved requires diamonds of varying sizes and weights. Creating this masterpiece demanded no fewer than 316 diamonds and 94 blue sapphires. The precious and exceptional character of this timekeeper is further enhanced by the case set with 23 baguette diamonds and 54 blue sapphires that reach till the lugs.

 

De Bethune presents DB28 Yellow Tones.

The iconic De Bethune DB28 features a polished grade 5 titanium case mounted on the two new floating lugs unveiled this year. Made of steel and palladium, it is accurate to within one lunar day every 122 years. De Bethune features a  titanium  balance  wheel  with  white  gold  weights  and  a  flat  terminal  curve  balance  spring. The  calibre  also  comes  equipped  with  the  triple  “pare-choc”  shock  absorption  system. The whole finds its completion with an alligator strap presenting a brown buckle with a yellow pin buckle in polished grade 5 titanium.
