Salon des Grandes Complications closes on a successful note.

In 2018, Salon des Grandes Complications returned to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with two editions. Both editions were held in parallel to Jewellery Salon Expo. 

SDGC Jeddah was held at the Hilton Hotel Grand Ballroom from Monday, 9th till Thursday 12th. The show was inaugurated by HRH Prince Faisal Bin Nawaf Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Prior to the official opening, H.E. Heinrich Schellenberg, Ambassador of Switzerland to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted a cocktail reception at the Hilton Jeddah Hotel. Saudi Watch retailers and brand representatives were among the guests of this cocktail reception.

The second edition of Salon des Grandes Complications Riyadh was held at Prince Sultan Grand Ballroom, AlFaisaliah Hotel and was inaugurated by H.R.H Prince Sultan Bin Saud Bin Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Both SDGC Jeddah and Riyadh witnessed the total of 42 combined exhibitors among watch brands and retailers. 

 

Dubai's GDP reached Dh389b in 2017.

Dubai Statistics Center (DSC) has revealed that Dubai’s real gross domestic product (GDP) reached Dh389 billion in 2017 compared to Dh379 billion in 2016, an increase of 2.6 per cent. According to DSC, the growth was fuelled by the performance of strategic sectors that accounted for 72.2 per cent of total growth in 2017. The transportation and storage sector was the biggest contributor to total economic growth at 18.5 per cent, surpassing wholesale and retail trade, traditionally the largest sector in the emirate. The wholesale and retail trade sector’s contribution to growth stood at 8.3 per cent.

Annabelle Wallis is the new face of Panthère de Cartier.

The new Panthère ambassador for watchmaking and jewellery is a cosmopolitan woman of the world: the multilingual British actress speaks Portuguese, Spanish and French. In June 2018 Annabelle will embody the Panthère watch woman in a digital campaign and video scenes shot with a Californian vibe by American director Cass Bird. She is also the new Panthère de Cartier Jewellery face. 

 

GPHG appoints Raymond Loretan as new President.

Raymond Loretan, the new President of the Foundation, took up his position in January 2018. He wishes to continue developing this institution on both national and international levels and to impart fresh momentum. Raymond Loretan succeeded Carlo Lamprecht, who had chaired the Foundation since its creation in 2011. 

 

Bulgari Hotels to open new hotel in Paris in 2020.

Bvlgari Hotels and Resorts announces the agreement for a new hotel in Paris, scheduled to open in 2020. This new opening will follow the ones in Beijing and Dubai in 2017, Shanghai in 2018 and Moscow in 2020, and thus bring the Bvlgari Hotels and Resorts Collection to eight properties, including Milan, London and Bali. The Hotel will be located at 30 Avenue George V. 

 

FHH Cultural Council presents the “Hommage au Talent” and “Hommage à la Passion” awards

The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) in Geneva honors two legends of contemporary and historic watchmaking with its Hommage au Talent and Hommage à la Passion awards. The Hommage à la Passion award was given to Franco Cologni, current chairman of the FHH Cultural Council, but best-known for his 30 years of leadership at Cartier’s watchmaking business. This year’s Hommage au Talent award was won jointly by Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey, who have turned Greubel Forsey into one of the world’s most innovative modern watchmakers.

The Overseas watch is distinctive six-sided bezel, self-winding Manufacture movements, and bracelets/straps interchangeability: all the key elements composing the visual signature and the horological qualities of the overseas collection are reprised in this fresh interpretation. The Overseas black dial model comes in two versions: an understated self-winding three-hand watch, and a chronograph. The chronograph version is powered by self-winding Calibre 5200, whose 22K oscillating weight adorned with a windrose may be admired through a transparent sapphire crystal caseback. 

 

Longines unveils Conquest V.H.P.

Conquest V.H.P. chronographs boast blue, carbon fibre, silvered or black dials. A steel, or blue or black rubber watch strap completes these exceptional timepieces. These steel or black PVD models are available in two sizes (42 and 44 mm in diameter) and display hours, minutes and seconds, a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock and a 60-second counter in the centre.
