New U.S. Tariff Regime Puts India's Gem & Jewellery Exports Under Pressure: GJEPC

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) said India's gem and jewellery exports to the United States will continue to face a 10% additional tariff under the new Section 301 tariff regime, effective 24 July 2026. While the unchanged duty remains a challenge for exporters, India has secured a competitive advantage by being placed in the lower tariff band after implementing a prohibition on forced labour imports. As a result, Indian exporters now benefit from a 2.5 percentage-point tariff advantage over key competitors, including China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Türkiye, the UAE, Israel and Vietnam, which are subject to a higher 12.5% tariff.
