Renowned Watchmaker Armin Strom Dies at 86

With great sadness, the independent Swiss watch manufacture Armin Strom announces the death of its founder, Mr. Armin Strom. A resident of Burgdorf, Switzerland, Mr. Strom passed away at the age of 86. The watch manufacture expresses its deepest condolences to the family. Mr. Strom founded his eponymous watch company in 1967 in Burgdorf. He began with hand-skeletonizing, engraving, and decorating watches, which he initially sold in his store. In 1984, he debuted his first own collection at the Basel watch and jewelry show. Striving for technical and aesthetic perfection, he earned the reputation of a "master skeletonizer," with his timepieces in high demand worldwide. In 2006, he sold the company to the Michel family. The childhood friends Serge Michel and Claude Greisler took over the company and still run it today. 
 

IWC Schaffhausen and the Polaris Program give Lewis Hamilton Astronaut Flight training

In a compelling new short movie produced by IWC Schaffhausen, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula OneTM Team driver Lewis Hamilton embarks on a flight training for astronauts. The same training was used to prepare the crews of the Inspiration 4 and Polaris Dawn commercial human spaceflight missions. During the training day, the seven-time Formula OneTM world champion and IWC brand ambassador was accompanied by students from Dibia DREAM, a non-profit organisation fostering STEM education. Their presence is also a reminder of Lewis Hamilton’s own incredible career journey spanning more than three decades and sends an inspiring message: you can be anything you want in life – a pilot on the racetrack, in the air or even in space.

Under the patronage of HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Councilor to the Custodian of the two Holy Mosquest and Governor of Makkah Region, and the attendance of HH Prince Saud Bin Abdullah Bin Jalawi, Governor of Jeddah, the Camel through the Ages will open the exhibition in the city of Jeddah on 10th December 2024 at King Abdulaziz Cultural Center. A monumental bronze camel sculpture by Alessandro Scavia and Commissioned by Layan Culture, crafted with the golden ratio. Features intricate Arabic calligraphy on the belly, integrated LED lighting, sound effects, and a rectangular corten and bronze base.

Inspired by the original 1960s Contograf, this mechanical automatic chronograph was celebrated in its time for its innovative features.
