SIHH 2017 witnessed 10% increase in number of visitors.
The Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie reached the record number of 30 exhibiting Maisons for a 2017 edition that more than lived up to expectations. For the very first time, the event was open to the public. There was more to see both in the main aisles and in the Carré des Horlogers, a showcase for artisan-creators and independent workshops, resulting in a unique panorama of contemporary Fine Watchmaking. Already a standout date in the calendar, the SIHH now positions itself as the international venue for watchmaking excellence. This initiative was crowned with success, shown by the record number of visitors for the entire week. This year, attendance rose by 10% to 16’000 visitors including 1’200 Journalists, and 2’500 Public visitors on last day of the exhibition. |

2017 predictions for the Luxury Industry: adapt to succeed.
It has become increasingly clear that we are living and working in an environment where it is hard to foresee what happen next. In a difficult economic climate, luxury retailers will have to ensure they invest wisely in their people and practices in 2017, according to a recent report published by Diana Verde Nieto in the luxury society.
In 2017, business rather than government has the chance to lead societies forward. Businesses should focus on building a progressive, inclusive vision for the future: a quality that will be needed in 2017. By taking responsibility for the way they conduct business, luxury companies can hedge against unstable economies, geopolitics, and a faster and faster production schedule. Beautiful product will always be crucial to a luxury company’s success. But companies which can also exemplify innovative, socially aware values through their purpose-driven offerings will find themselves anchored amidst 2017’s political, technological, social and economic changes.

Dubai Duty Free rethinks prices as post-Brexit pound hits sales.
Dubai Duty Free is renegotiating with suppliers after a weaker pound led to lower sales and expects to boost revenue by 5 per cent this year, driven by spending by Chinese travellers.
The government-controlled company, which operates at Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest by international traffic, posted a 3 per cent drop in sales to $1.85 billion in 2016. The decline was partly due to the pound’s slump versus the dollar in the second half of the year after Britain voted to leave the European Union in June, the CEO said.
