Montegrappa Calligraphy Pen/Booklet - limited edition comprising 512 pieces

Montegrappa has teamed up with publisher MPP-ME and Lebanese academic and expert on Arabic language history, Dr Antoine Boutros, to produce a chronicle of the development of Arabic language and Arabic calligraphy. The result is a beautifully illustrated tome which explains the origins and developments of this fine art, looking as far back as the origins of the language, right through to the place of the modern fountain pen in an increasingly digitalized world. ‘Arabic Calligraphy: Words Made Precious’ was originally published in Arabic only, and gave rise to the project of the Arabic Calligraphy pen. It has recently been re-written in an English edition, to coincide with the launch of this exclusive writing instrument and a copy of the book is included with every pen purchased.

During Baselworld Montegrappa revealed this very special Calligraphy pen designed by the Lebanese artist and designer, Katya Assouad Traboulsi. Her creativity marries the calligraphy and the Arabesque pattern, which are intricately bound together by history and culture. The Calligraphy pen is a limited edition comprising 512 pieces

Available as a fountain pen only, but with a wide range of nibs including oblique and stub versions preferred by calligraphers, the Calligraphy writing instruments are made of bamboo black celluloid with sterling silver trim. The fountain pen is fitted with an 18K gold nib enhanced with a bicolour arabesque motif. Delivered in a hand-made wooden case devised to protect the pen, it also houses a hardback version of the special book, “Arabic Calligraphy: Words Made Precious”.

The Calligraphy pen is a limited edition comprising 512 pieces, this number representing the discovery of first document written in Arabic and another two languages from the year 512 CE. The Calligraphy Pen is fitted with the owner’s choice of the following nibs: EF (Extra Fine), F (Fine), M (Medium), OM (Oblique Medium), B (Broad), OB (Oblique Broad), BB (Double Broad), STUB 1.1.

LAURENT FERRIER revealed a new version of the globe with enamel dial featuring the world map

fiogf49gjkf0d
The new LAURENT FERRIER the Grand feu cloisonné enamel with the outlines of the continents is formed using the technique of cloisonné: thin 18K gold wires are applied to create the shapes of the continents. Enamel is then deposited in each “cell”.

The Grand Feu enamelling is a difficult art to master, since the original colours are modified by successive firings in the kiln. Moreover, the dial itself is rendered more vulnerable by the extremely high temperatures to which it is subjected.
In a first phase, the selected colours are applied with a brush in a specific order. The dial is then fired at over 840°C, after which it must be cooled down and cleared of any potential imperfections on its surface. The other colours are applied layer by layer and the dial is repeatedly fired accordingly.

Frédéric Jouvenot presents a three-dimensional debut Sîn

fiogf49gjkf0d
Frédéric Jouvenot, CEO of the young Swiss manufacture with the same name, is presenting a timepiece of remarkable finesse at Baselworld 2015, as a global debut. As all his multiple award-winning creations so far, this première stands out with an unusual time indication concept. Reflecting the heavenly canopy, where the sun and moon celebrate the passage between night and day, the unique complication showcases both celestial bodies embedded in a threedimensional dial.
The new Frédéric Jouvenot model named Sîn, after the Mesopotamian god of the moon. In terms of its complexity and unorthodox time display, it needs shun no comparison with the company's other unusual creations. On the contrary: Jouvenot now lets the moon and sun celebrate the day on a futuristic dial that for the observer looks like a stunning trompe l'oeil.
The moon appears when the sun sets and is gradually overtaken by the hour hand, which seems to orbit around the minute star located in the center of the dial.
During the progression of the moon, the sunis hidden – behind the horizon, so to speak – in a cosmic tunnel that extends from 3 to 9 o'clock, and rises again the next morning.
The choreography of the elements reflects the perpetual spectacle that takes place in the firmament. To optimize the view of this mesmerizing extravaganza, Frédéric Jouvenot developed a special sapphire-crystal glass for his creation. It is secured to the case with pins.

Christophe Claret offers Aventicum

fiogf49gjkf0d
Christophe Claret pays tribute to Aventicum, the ancient capital of Roman Helvetia, and its museum. One of the many treasures to have been excavated here is a solid gold bust of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius. The watchmaker has reproduced this bust and placed it at the centre of the dial, in the form of a gold micro-sculpture. Less than 3 millimetres high, this likeness is magnified using an astonishing optical system known as the mirascope: two parabolic mirrors are positioned one above the other; the topmost mirror has a hole in its centre.

1770 Rose gold by Manufacture Royale

fiogf49gjkf0d
This timepiece, named 1770 after the year Manufacture Royale was established, captures the very essence of the brand. On the one hand, the creative verve of a bold and contemporary design, straight from the imagination of Eric Giroud. On the other, the infinite expertise that comes with the grand tradition of Swiss watchmaking, channeled into a movement that has been developed and built entirely in-house, and whose centrepiece is one of watchmaking's most compelling complications: the flying tourbillon.

Certina reveals it latest Chronographe DS-8 Phase de Lune

fiogf49gjkf0d
The DS-8 chronograph reaches for the moon by adding a new complication indicating the mean duration of the cycle and quarters of the heavenly body. So as to position this function at 10 o’clock, the high-precision PrecidriveTM   movement offers an original layout of the chronograph counters. While the 12-hour display appears through an aperture inside the 60-minute counter, 60-seconds timing is done by a central sweep-seconds hand. These indications are attractively staged on a sunburst satin-brushed anthracite dial also featuring a small seconds subdial. Equally at ease by day or night, the Chronographe DS-8 Phase de Lune features a trendy 41 mm diameter and naturally includes Certina’s famous DS (Double Safety) concept.

Girard-Perregaux presents Neo-Tourbillon with Three Bridges

The Neo-Tourbillon with Three Bridges, a contemporary interpretation of the Esmeralda created by Girard-Perregaux in the 19th century, offers a perfect alliance between history, tradition and innovation. The iconic three bridges are made of sandblasted, black PVD-treated titanium. Accentuating these depth effects, the mainplate is also sandblasted and black PVD-treated to focus perspective lines and light towards the centre forming a succession of light grey circles. As if to defy gravity, the generous titanium tourbillon carriage weights only 0.25 grams, despite its 80 parts. Its fascinating dance is magnified by a remarkably domed “box-type” sapphire crystal enabling the DLC-treated titanium case to do without a bezel.
