Swatch introduces the Sistem51 in stainless steel

During Baselworld 2013, Swatch group revealed the Sistem51, a $150 watch made in Switzerland with a 51-component movement made entirely by machines, mostly out of plastic and now it’s available in steel.

The core of the Sistem51 is the movement. It’s comprised of just 51 parts, grouped in five modules, all anchored by a single central screw. It’s truly Swiss-made and everything is shaped, finished, assembled, and regulated entirely by machines. This is the first automatic caliber in the history of timekeeping that isn’t touched by a single human hand during creation.

The Sistem51 system was made available in different colors and now it’s launched in Steel.

Qatar index jumps 2 percent tops 9-month high

The Qatar index jumped more than 2 per cent last week, leading the gains in the Gulf region, to hit its highest level in nine months after FTSE Russell relaxed the liquidity requirement on stocks.

The Qatar exchange index closed 2.18 per cent higher at 11,371.12, after hitting a high of 11,396.96, a level last seen on November 11. About 17.6 million shares or worth 815 million Qatari riyals were traded, almost double compared to 8 million shares.

Global Gold Jewelry Demand declines

Global demand for gold jewelry dropped 9% to $17.98 billion in the second quarter, according to the World Gold Council (WGC) and (as recently reported by Rapaport). By volume, demand slumped 14% to 444.1 tonnes. Demand in the first half sank to $36.3 billion, its lowest first-half level since 2010. The decline was driven by weak consumer sentiment in China and the Middle East while gold prices rallied during the period, the WGC said.
