Rolex, Patek Philippe, Chanel, Chopard and Tudor leave Baselworld
Rolex, Patek Philippe, Chanel, Chopard and Tudor leave Baselworld to create a new watch trade show in Geneva with the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie. The show will be held early April 2021 at Palexpo, at the same time as Watches & Wonders. This departure follows a number of unilateral decisions made without consultation by Baselworld management, including the postponement of the watch show until January 2021, as well as its inability to meet the brands’ needs and expectations. The aim is to offer partner brands the best possible professional platform, applying a shared vision to successfully meet future challenges in the watchmaking industry. It will also give crucial prominence to the sector’s expertise and innovations, both in Switzerland and internationally.

The Swiss watch Manufactures belonging to the LVMH Group decided to leave Baselworld to join the other flagship brands in Geneva from 2021 onwards
The Swiss watch Manufactures of the LVMH Group, including the LVMH Watchmaking Division (TAG Heuer, Hublot and Zenith) and the House of Bvlgari, have taken note of the departure of Rolex, Tudor, Patek Philippe, Chanel and Chopard from the Baselworld show scheduled for January 2021. Within this context of clearly weakened representation of the Swiss watch industry and hence inevitably lower participation, it appears clear to the brands composing the Division and to the House of Bvlgari that they must also withdraw in order to preserve their image and their relations with their clients as well with the media. They will therefore not be taking part in the 2021 edition of Baselworld.

Hermès saw a strong rebound of luxury consumption in post-coronavirus in one China Store
Hermès is said to have brought in at least 19 million renminbi, or $2.7 million, in sales on the reopening day of its flagship store in Guangzhou’s Taikoo Hui, according to multiple sources. Rare bags, including a diamond-studded Himalayan Birkin, were shipped to the location. VIPs from across the Guangdong province, the wealthiest area in China with Guangzhou its capital, descended on the store to purchase tableware, shoes, furniture and leather goods. The single-day tally, believed to be the highest for a single boutique in China, offers a confidence boost for luxury brands who are eager to get tills ringing again after the coronavirus outbreak.

Montegrappisti Spirit: A Passion Project
Last summer, Montegrappa had the pleasure of hosting Franco Pupulin at our Ca’ Erizzo factory and estate. Italian by birth, Franco lectures in botany at the University of Costa Rica, whilst pursuing hobbies that include drawing, photography, calligraphy and pen collecting. To call “A Romantic Journey to Bassano del Grappa and to Montegrappa” a travel journal would be a cruel understatement. On the evidence of the painstaking care invested into every word, drawing and photograph, it can only be described as a passion project. Of course, Franco’s sumptuous collection of Montegrappas – and his love of celluloid – did not go unnoticed. Among a stunning selection of Extras, Montegrappa spotted archive models including Emblema, Espressione and Privilege.

Oroarezzo moves to July
Italian Exhibition Group (IEG) decided to move Oroarezzo 2020 (OA) to July and is working to guarantee customers, visitors, partners and, of course, its own workers, with the highest safety standards. OA 2020 will be held from 18th to 21st July in the Arezzo Expo Centre with a proactive listening approach on the part of IEG and a punctual response to sector companies that have been at a standstill for weeks due to the health crisis. Companies that are the country’s economic pride and which need to meet customers and international retailers in order to resume production and engage the market’s summer period. Aware that the current circumstances may not allow international buyers to come to Tuscany, IEG, as the sector’s internal engine, is planning an “omni-channel” edition of OA to maximize meeting opportunities regardless.
