BaselWorld opening press conference revealed strong export figures for 2014

According to Mr. Francois Thiebaud President of the Swiss Exhibitor’s committee the export figures of the Swiss watch industry has revealed a +6.8 percentage compared with the same period of 2013. The Swiss watch exports reached SF 1.6 billion and SF 1.7 billion in January and February respectively. These figures demonstrate a good start of this year for the Swiss watch industry. The mood is very positive at BaselWorld this year and all exhibitors are set to reveal their novelties to the press and their retailers during the coming week. In 2013 the Swiss watch exports reaches SF 21.8 billion compared to SF 21.4 billion in 2012. Asia remains the main market for the Swiss watch exports with 53% while Europe comes in second with 31%, Americas 14% with the remaining 2% are shared equally between Africa and Oceania.

Hublot unveils its team of international football stars as part of its 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign

Breguet Classique Tourbillon Quantième Perpétuel

Breguet’s watchmakers set about creating a new version, the reference 3797. In it, they have paid particular attention to the styling for a more intuitive display of the indications without compromising the charm of the watch. Breguet lifted the hours and minutes chapter to the foreground, the timepiece draws attention to the essential information. The one-minute tourbillon at 6 o'clock nicely complements the chapter ring. This complication proved particularly difficult to construct because it is mounted on a slight dome. The subdial for the days at 9 o'clock is engine turned in waves. In the movement, a snail cam makes the days hand jump instantaneously. At 3 o'clock a blued steel hand points to the months on a dial engine-turned in a shimmering sunburst pattern. At its centre a blue sun shows the leap years. At the back of the watch, a sapphire-crystal glass reveals the movement and the way the baseplate has been designed to throw the maximum light onto the tourbillon.

Hermes Arceau Temari

The Temari, an art meaning “hand ball” in Japanese, is bound up with that of kimonos, have inspired a Hermès silk carré, of which one of the motifs is now reinterpreted in the Arceau collection. These watches are issued in limited white gold editions set with diamonds according to the snow-setting technique and feature dials reproducing the design of one of these balls by combining diamonds with a marquetry composed either of white mother-of-pearl, onyx, lapis lazuli or opal. The case is set with 675 diamonds and the crown with 27, including a rose cut diamond.

Corum Admiral’s Cup now welcomes an eminently complicated new movement: hand-wound Caliber CO 1008. This exclusive mechanism features nothing less than a double tourbillion, combined with a retrograde date and an ingenious time-adjustment system, dedicated to ensuring remarkable reliability backed by a generous 72-hour power reserve. Available in 18K red gold or grade 5 titanium, the case of the Admiral’s Cup AC-One Double Tourbillon stylishly displays a generous 45 mm diameter enhanced by an immediately recognizable design. Clearly cut out for adventure, it is endowed with impressive water resistance to a depth of 300 meters.

Arnold & Son Double Tourbillon Escapement Dual Time

Arnold & Son pays homage to its early history by releasing Double Tourbillon Escapement Dual Time watch, when John Arnold and his progeny developed a way to manufacture quality marine chronometers in quantity. The lever in the deadbeat seconds mechanism takes the shape of an anchor, symbolizing the company’s involvement in the maritime industry. Through the 43.5mm 18k red gold case's sapphire back, you can see the rest of the new in-house self-winding calibre A&S 6003. It has a 50 hour power reserve, large circular decoration, satin-finished wheels, and mirror-polished blued screws.

Breitling for Bentley 6.75 Midnight Carbon

This is a deep black, ticking tribute to the biggest Bentley engine, the famous 6.75 litre version powering the Mulsanne limousines. The Bentley 6.75 chronograph ramps up the power and the audacity in an entirely black-clad limited series. The self-winding chronograph movement is chronometer-certified by the (COSC). Its “large aperture calendar” system displays the date in a highly readable manner via two distinct indicators: one for the tens and the other for the units. The Bentley 6.75 Midnight Carbon is issued in a 1,000-piece limited edition and comes on a rubber strap with a central raised motif echoing that of the bezel.
