Baselworld 2009, held from 26 March to 2 April 2009, the world’s largest and most important trade show for the watch & jewellery industry, set in an area of over 160,000 sq. m. This landmark, global show attracted almost 2000 international companies from 45 countries including 453 Swiss brands—289 from the watch sector, 42 from the jewellery sector and 122 in other related sectors. According to organizers, visitor numbers at 93,900 were down by 12 % over 2008 figures, attributing the drop to the current worldwide economic recession. However, this year saw a higher percentage of overseas visitors at 68 % compared to 64 % in 2008.
Earlier the Exhibition was officially inaugurated by Federal Councillor Pascal Couchepin, Head of the Federal Department of Home Affairs in the presence of Rene Kamm, CEO of the MCH Group and Jacques J. Duchene, President of the Exhibitors Committee. Meanwhile, the dates have also been announced for Baselworld 2010. Next year’s edition will be held from 18 to 25 March 2010.
