Swatch Group SA, the world’s largest watchmaker, will have a ‘good’ year in 2008 as sales climb in the Middle East and other emerging markets, Chairman Nicolas G. Hayek said recently in a Bloomberg interview, shrugging off concern about a possible luxury industry slowdown. In a letter to shareholders published in the company’s annual report, the Chairman expressed optimism about the performance of the Swatch Group through 2008. “We will continue to create new dynamism and new wealth in 2008 as well as in the coming years,” said Hayek, 80.

“Sales in the first four months of 2008 rose considerably,” said Swatch CEO, Nicolas Hayek Jr. at a recent press conference at the corporate headquarters in Biel, Switzerland.

Omega’s sales were ‘very good’ in March (2008), Hayek Sr., said earlier in April 2008. “This year or next may see the brand’s revenues double from 2004’s 1.0 billion Swiss Francs (CHF),” he continued.
