Dubai’s Wafi Mall jewel thief film set for US premiere

A documentary film based on the infamous international jewel thieves dubbed the ‘Pink Panthers’, who were responsible for a 2007 heist on a jewellery store in Dubai’s Wafi Mall, will get its international premiere in New York on July 31. The documentary traces the origins of the gang in the former Yugoslavia as they carry out a number of high profile jewellery raids across the world, from London to the UAE. Their 2007 heist, when they crashed into the windows of a House of Graff store in Dubai’s Wafi Mall and stole millions of dirhams worth of jewels, was caught on camera and has become an popular YouTube video. Including interviews with gang members, the 89 minute documentary, named ‘Smash and Grab: The Story of the Pink Panthers’, was directed by Sundance Film Festival award winning director Havana Marking.
