Rolex announces first Middle East Laureate in history among winners of 2008 Awards for Enterprise

Rolex has announced the ten winners of the 2008 Rolex awards for Enterprise. The award recipients hailing from India, Jordan, Mexico, Paraguay, South Africa, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and the United States were feted at a recent ceremony held in Dubai, the first ever Rolex awards ceremony venue in the Middle East. Five Associate Laureates will receive USD $ 50,000 each at ceremonies in their home countries and all ten will also receive a Rolex chronometer. The Rolex Awards were held under the patronage of HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President & Prime Minister of the UAE & Ruler of Dubai.

The 2008 Rolex Laureates chosen from nearly 1,500 applicants in 127 countries by an independent panel included Talal Akhasheh of Jordan, Tim Bauer (USA), Andrew McGonigle (UK), Andrew Muir (South Africa) and Elsa Zaldivar (Paraguay). The ceremonies were attended by Patrick Heiniger, CEO, Rolex and Rebecca Irvin, Director of the Rolex Awards for Enterprise.
