The Thai Gems & Jewellery Traders Association (TGJTA), principal sponsors of the continuing and long-running Bangkok Gems & Jewellery Fair (BGJF) series, has unveiled the initial draft of its Ruby Guide, which aims to make trading in the red gemstone more comprehensible and transparent for both the retailer as well as the end-consumer, according to a Press Statement.

“We hope that gemstone laboratories will learn about, adopt and integrate this guide into their identification documentation,” said Vichai Assarasakorn, President, TGJTA. “The Ruby Guide will enable them to give consumers the required and precise information whether the gemstones are treated or not, and if so, about the nature of the modifications to the stones,” he added. The Ruby Guide will be presented for discussion and approval at the CIBJO’s 2009 Congress in Macau and is expected to be made available in four languages: English, Chinese (Mandarin), Arabic and Russian.
