The Presidential Suite of the luxurious Burj Al Arab in Dubai was the setting for an exclusive viewing of Harry Winston’s rare jewels and timepieces by the world’s leading luxury jewelry and watch retailer. The Rare Moment exhibited collections from the New York, Paris and Geneva salons that had never been seen in the Middle East. Guests also had the opportunity to observe a diamond setter unveil his art while a gemologist explained the delicate process of selecting the best diamonds.
“Harry Winston stands for exclusivity, glamour and refinement. The Rare Moment experience is meant to bring these values to life by offering the guests the unique experience of enjoying a private viewing of our rare collections in an intimate setting,” explained Christophe Nicaise, Regional Director of Harry Winston.
The Rare Jewels and Timepieces collections exhibited at the Dubai Rare Moment were valued at around USD $ 30 million. One of the diamonds showcased was the Lesotho Diamond, the largest diamond ever found by a woman, Ernestine Ramaboa, an independent miner who found the 601-carat rough diamond in Lesotho, South Africa. The diamond was later purchased in Geneva by Harry Winston who had it cut into 18 stones totaling 242.5 carats. It is interesting to note that one of the stones, the 40 carat Lesotho III was given to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis as an engagement gift by Aristotle Onassis. The Lesotho I is the largest of the cut stones at 71.73 carats.
