Vasant Mehta elected new GJEPC Chairman

Mr. Vasant Mehta, currently Vice Chairman (2006-2008), Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) of India, was unanimously elected the new Chairman of the Council for a two-year term 2008-2010, following the 42^nd Annual General Meeting of the Council in Mumbai on 23 September 2008. “I am honoured and overwhelmed to be elected to this immensely responsible position and look forward to taking the industry to new heights of successes,” pledged Mr. Mehta, after the official announcement of his appointment was made. Mr. Mehta, a second-generation, accomplished diamantaire, has over four decades of involvement in the gem & jewellery industry in India.

Mr. Mehta will take on the responsibilities from the outgoing Chairman Mr. Sanjay Kothari, who successfully completed his two-year term (2006-2008) as Chairman. Mr. Kothari was elected the Convener of the Promotions, Marketing & Business Development Committee with Hemant Shah and Navin Jashnani as Co-Conveners. Mr. Rajiv Jain, Chairman, Jaipur region, has assumed the position of Vice Chairman of the Council. Another former Chairman, Mr. Bakul Mehta remains a Convener of the Diamond Panel Committee.
